"God's Power Through Hardship"
To celebrate black history month, the
Music Department of Redemption Baptist
Church has planned a concert which will
feature selections of spirituals by
African American Composers and poetry
by Haitian poets. Selections will include
Moses Hogan's arrangement of "Wade in the
Water, My Soul's been Anchored in the
Lord;" The Redemption Young Adult Choir
will also perform the works of William
Dawson's "Soon ah will be done".
The
concert's theme "God's Power Through
Hardship" refers to the wit of slaves. God
always turns a desperate situation into
one that astonishes us. It is almost
inexplicable to witness individuals with
no formal education create a language of
their own through singing. Spirituals
during slavery were an expression of
community solidarity, a source of
inspiration and motivation; were also
used as coded communication.
The concert
is free and open to the public. Please,
come and join us in praising God for who
He is.
