Redemption
Baptist Church was
started in June 1990
in a shopping center
on Esther Rolle
Avenue (NW 3rd
Avenue), across
Wal-Mart. We were
then a small flock
of thirty people or
so. In less than two
years, thanks to a
very efficient
evangelism effort,
our attendance
increased fourfold,
so much that we had
to look for another
place of worship.
When
we purchased our
first sanctuary in
June 1992, “we
were like people who
dreamed” (Ps.
126:1). As a matter
of fact, when we
were bargaining over
the price, the funds
that were available
to us were
insignificant
compared to the
asking price. But
the Lord fulfilled
on our behalf this
promise to his
people: “ I will
give you every place
where you set
your foot.”
From
1993 to 1997, the
church experienced a
sheer “demographic
explosion” that
compelled us to hold
two worship services
in our
always-overcrowded
sanctuary. As early
as 1994, it became
imperative for us to
“enlarge the
place of our tent
and lengthen our
cords” (Es.
54:2). Relying on
God’s help, we
embarked in
September 1998 on
the daring project
of erecting a larger
place of worship. In
spite of all the
challenges we faced,
the Lord took us
through the
construction
project, and we
dedicated our new
sanctuary on May 5,
2000.
Two
years later, the
need to have
adequate facilities
for our Sunday
School classes and
other church-related
activities drove us
to build the
three-story complex
flanking the
Fellowship Hall. The
building currently
houses the Sunday
School classes for
adults and children,
the Bible
Study for kids on
Wednesday night, and
the Sunday worship
service for children
ages 3 to 13.
God has
blessed us
tremendously so far,
and we count on His
guidance for the
years to come.
